- Congratulations on a successful 2006. What changes can we expect from Lunarpages in 2007?
Thanks! :) And besides the top-secret world-domination project we’re working on, there’s a lot in store for our customers in 2007. This past year, we made a lot of good connections and were able to offer really incredible services to our customers at little or no cost to them. Our biggest success definitely had to be the free addition of CoffeeCup’s Webmaster-and-Design software to all new and existing customers on 12 or 24 month plans. It was such a huge success that we wouldn’t dream of changing it! We also offered discounts on FireFactor SEO Tools, which helped a lot with the redesign of our own website.
To ring in the New Year, we just recently implemented our new website design. You can take a look at it via http://www.lunarpages.com. I think that the new design speaks volumes for what Lunarpages is and will continue to be about – simplicity, honesty, and trustworthiness. We’ve also expanded our offerings to include VPS Hosting, a hosting market we’re excited and proud to be a part of! So for the rest of 2007, expect the unexpected. ;)
- Do you plan expansions through acquisitions in 2007 or through Marketing?
Through hostile takeover—I mean, we like to keep our options open ;) Some of the biggest business developments in the world happen via acquisitions but normally for us we focus most of our efforts on marketing concepts and new advertisement opportunities. Every day, there are thousands of websites we don’t even know exist who may be the perfect place for us to showcase our services or partner with a great company, so every day we’re out there looking and listening. In 2007, expect to see Lunarpages really testing the waters of where we can gain exposure and how.
- How do you see Web 2.0 changing the web hosting industry?
Good question. ;) Web 2.0 is changing everything, so it would be naďve of me to say that it’s not going to affect the way web hosting is done at some point in time. I recently read an article about search terms for 2006, and while “wiki” was in Google’s top 10 twice what interests me more is that half of the sites were social networking and web 2.0 qualified. I think that reflects a serious change of what people want on the internet. Luckily for us, 2.0 is all about community, lightweight scripting, simplicity, and functionality, so for Lunarpages that just means doing what we’re doing and have been doing since 1998 – offering our customers not only a space on the web but ways in which to reach each other and truly connect. With minor changes, of course, like our new site design, which is less script intensive and loads faster, is user-friendly, and beautifully simple, as well as an update for our blog, which now includes about 15 or so staff writers, “Digg it” toolbar, and ways for all our users to connect with us.
As a whole, Web 2.0 means that the hosting providers who continue to have static, heavy-interface-based sites with minimal (or no) user contact, ignoring social networking and blogging capabilities altogether, are goners. Pretty soon people are going to see the difference, and this side of Web 2.0 is much, much more fun.
- What changes are you planning to help gain market shared in the Web 2.0 market?
I don’t really see much of a change from this past year, as we’ve been really gravitating already towards Web 2.0—without knowing it! But do expect us to really buff up our Ruby on Rails hosting and support; we already have a couple big names in the Rails world hosting with us and checking it out. RoR is an exciting language and we’re thrilled to be able to offer it in a safe environment. We’ve also got some great plans for our Affiliates and Web Designers.
- You are a provider of Windows Web hosting plans. How do you see the new Microsoft releases, Vista, IE7.0, and the New Office suite, affecting the Windows web hosting market?
The Windows market itself is clearly booming. With release after release of new products and services, it would be a wonder if our sales didn’t increase because of these things! What’s nice is that if you’re a Windows lover and just have to have a Windows hosting account to go with all your other windy-goodies, you can buy a Windows Hosting Plan from us for $8.95/month, run Vista on January 30, download IE7, and type your 5,000 page memoirs on Word all at the same time. You can build yourself a little Windows niche and play all day long. ;) As for the Windows hosting market in general, I think there may be a good deal of buzz resulting from the Vista release and probably some kind of lurch in sales for our Windows plans. Which we’re obviously totally hyped about!
- Hosted Applications seem to be gaining a lot of popularity. Are you planning on introducing any Hosted Applications?
Maybe. ;) While I can’t divulge all of our confidential, highly classified plans for the future, I can say that we’re extremely aware of the craze for these kinds of resources and we’re listening to feedback and looking closely at the Windows Exchange Server to see how we could implement something of that magnitude for our users, along with making good partnerships in other arenas as always.
- Can you tell us of any upcoming Promotions that you will be introducing this spring?
Two things I can mention are a space for Web Designers and a space for Affiliates. For Designers, we’re ready to help them gain exposure by offering them a place on our site to do so. And for Affiliates, expect to see an amazing new place for them to rest their feet. ;) Our Affiliate Department is taking some extra time to implement a new resource for them to increase revenue, understand Affiliate Marketing, share techniques and learn new ones.
And as for us, as always expect BIG, risky things.
- What is your Marketing and Sales focus for the new year?
Unconventionality!! We’re really looking to spread out into new horizons of the web. Like I said above, Web 2.0 is really exciting to us, so we’re going to continue to look into this and develop accordingly. Lunarpages is also always actively seeking out wonderful partnerships that are beneficial to our users. This year, we’re really going to delve into the unexpected and avant-garde, and if it seems a little risky or out of the box, we’re there. ;)
